Both the macon- bibb sheriff's office and fire department received the call around 10 this morning.
Deputies say witnesses reported a group of five people walking the trails, and they decided to go for a swim.
According to deputies, a 26-year-old man was having trouble in the water.
His friends could not rescue him, and the victim did not resurface.
Officials believe the strong current on the ocmulgee river may be a factor in the drowning.
