Family rescued in middle of Argentine Patagonian's worst winters since the nineties

The Patagonian region in Argentina has one of the worst winters since the nineties, with temperatures are below -25 degrees, strong winds, and heavy snow.

A total of 37 high tension towers were knocked down by storms in Chubut, while several towns were isolated and in Río Negro an agricultural emergency was declared.

Winds and heavy snowfall knocked down several of the towers that transport electricity between the Futaleufú hydroelectric complex located in the Andean area, and the city of Puerto Madryn.

The towers are 25 metres high and carry electricity for 550 kilometres.

A family in Villa Llanquin received help from the National Guard.

Members of Squadron 34 of San Carlos de Bariloche went in a caravan with special vehicles to carry food, medicine, and fodder for animals in the Arroyo Blanco area, about 60 kilometres from the city.

National Guard quickly responded to aid the family with a 90-year-old woman needing help.

Due to the continuous snowfall, they were isolated unable to go out.

The Argentine National Gendarmerie organized the rescue operation with several 4x4 trucks and a snowmobile.

They encountered a few problems on the road, and on several occasions, they had to resort to manually make their way with shovels.

The patrol was able to cross the Limay River during the adverse weather condition.

After three days, they managed to assist the residents.

All family members were in good health.
