NHS workers march to Downing Street demanding pay rise

Hundreds of NHS staff marched from St Thomas' Hospital to Downing Street on Wednesday (July 29) demanding a pay rise after the government excluded them from other workers in the public sector who are set to receive one.

The healthcare workers chanted, "you've clapped us, you've slapped us, now pay us" One nurse held back tears as she told the crowd how she "gave audio descriptions of patients dying to their relatives", adding "Have we not done enough?

Have we not worked hard enough?

Have we not sacrificed enough?" Marchers spelt the number 540 out of shoes in front of Downing Street, representing the number of NHS and care workers who have died after being exposed to COVID-19.
