Funeral arrangements set for Monroe County deputy killed during weekend

Updated - Funeral arrangements are now complete for a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy who lost his life after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night.

She saw some lights but she didn't realize it was a checkpoint."

Monroe county sheriff deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint on hamilton rd near seely dr. saturday night.

"at some point 2 of them were struck by a vehicle."

That's when someone driving a vehicle hit deputy dylan pickle and deputy zack wilbanks.

Both went to north mississippi medical center in tupelo.

Standup "i asked sheriff kevin crook how deputy zack wilbanks is doing now."

"he is a resilient guy so i anticipate a full recovery."

Deputy zack wilbanks had surgery for some of his injuries.

Deputy wilbanks has a broke leg and a small skull fracture.

Deputy dylan pickle died from his injuries at the hospital.

Pickle's mom says it was his dream to become a law enforcement officer from a young age.

He started working for the monroe county sheriff office in 2016 as a jailer.

Deputy pickle was in the national guard at the time and went on a deployment, when he returned he continued to work for monroe county still in the jail.

Pickle sent himself to the police academy at moorhead.

He worked in the jail until he finally got promoted to patrol.

Sheriff kevin crook says he got many texts and facebook posts from the public praising the things he did as a deputy .
