Our top story tonight at 6: during the macon-bibb county commission meeting tuesday, city leaders announced a three-part plan that includes the removal of the downtown confederate statue.

41 nbc's rashaad vann has details on the plan.

Wynn: macon-bibb county commissioner, valerie wynn, says the idea started from another proposal to renovate the corner of cotton ave and second street into a plaza that included removing the confederate statue in the location to another area.

Wynn: the proposal changed into the three-part plan from mayor robert reichert and commissioner virgil watkins.

However, commissioners like valerie wynn, mallory jones, and joe allen are against the proposal.

Wynn: commissioner elaine lucas says the three-part plan would help improve the downtown area.

Lucas: she says the changes could also prevent the statues from being vandalized again.

The proposal will be voted on again for final approval.

The project could cost up to 5 million dollars.
