Monsoon rainstorms have caused severe floods across over a third of Bangladesh, affecting more than a million residents.

Footage from July 13 shows locals in Phulbari Upazila in the Kurigram district braving an overflowing river to catch fish after their homes were cut off from the markets.

According to local media, to reach other towns, villagers will have to ride boats across the swollen river, which has burst its banks.

Resident Ahsan Habib said: "We want to ask permanent solutions.

Our houses, cars, schools, and properties are flooded.

"Every year we go through this, and nothing changes, but the budget for flood gets higher." Bangladesh has 230 rivers, including 53 shared with India.
