VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMPS

VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMPS

Is permanently closed -- due in part to covid-19.

Summer camps across the country are reporting a big spike in covid-19 cases.

Here in the tris- state----- most of those camps have closed their doors.

But as 44 news reporter kory kempf explains --- kids can still attend camps*virtually.

"our kids, especially those that were in public school and not being home-schooled, they had their world interrupted immediately.

And a lot of them need encouragement."

Summer camp in the pandemic looks just like the last part of the school year----children are learning from screens.

"we realized that we can still make connections online, so a lot of our kids are already missing camp, and we can connect with them, we can challenge them in their faith, and play games.

Same things we would have done at camp, just in a different format."

Even with safety measures in place, camp counselors and campers all around the nation have tested positive for the virus.

Which is why, here locally, camp brosend is hosting a christian summer camp virtually.

"what we've found with our teenagers that have chosen to join us is they want to be together, they want to see friends that they would have seen if they had come to camp."

"the virtual camp provides a way for the kids to socialize, make friends, and experience some of the things they might otherwise miss out on."

"i think they just want to be encouraged, and challenged, and to see people that they know, and share experiences, and come out of it with a hope and maybe a deeper faith for our kids."
