Finding a break from the heat

Ho can't get out of the heat.

Newswatch 12's alicia rubin spoke with a local organization working to protect people this summer.

Alicia says: "during the winter in the rogue valley you'll see warming shelters but in the summer there's no designated cooling shelters that's why some local organizations have open their doors to help people cool off on these hot summer days" compassion highway project is right across the street from hawthorne park -- and has become a safe cool place to beat the heat.

Nats melissa says: "it's awful hot out there so everybody's been coming in to get out of the heat" not only is compassion highway project a cool place to be, it also offers food and water for pets, masks for anyone who needs one and summer clothes and shoes.

Melissa says: "we offer ice water, we have autre pops, we have all the fans in here" from noon to 5, monday through friday, compassion highway project's door is open for those in need.

Melissa says: "we stay busy all day every day --butted-- and then at night i normally drive around with bottled water and autre pops and popsicles" right now, compassion highway project is accepting donations of all kinds.

Melissa says: "we definitely need summer clothing so shorts for men and women tank tops t-shirts and shoes for sure.

Tennis shoes are great just because people walk so much that would be great and we go through so much water so if anybody wants to donate bottles of water that would be awesome" alicia says: "if you are interested in donating you
