Hong Kong Disneyland reopens after five months

Spirits were high and face masks were on as the gates opened, and staff welcomed visitors back to Hong Kong Disneyland on Thursday (June 18) after a nearly five-month closure.

"It is my pleasure to allow all of you to believe in magic, and officially announce that Hong Kong Disneyland is reopened." The park is the second Disneyland to open after Shanghai, showing the world what a socially-distanced theme park looks like.

But despite the plethora of health and safety signage outside, in the queues and at the restaurants, guests were still overjoyed to be back.

"It's a surprise for her today, she's still in shock that we can come back to Disneyland today." Although all the rides are back up and running, the majority of the park's shopping and dining locations are restarting operations with "controlled capacity." And parkgoers can still interact with Disney favorites Mickey and Minnie Mouse -- but photo ops will remain off-limits for now.
