GOV. RESPONSE TO BESHEAR EFFIGY PKG

Publicly for the first time about the group of people who hanged a likeness of him in effigy outside the governor's mansion over the weekend...and he says some state lawmakers are partly responsible.

Abc 36's monica harkins takes us to where it all begin...the governor's own front lawn.

L3: top story white rep.

Savannah maddox (r) dry ridge 10 sec monica: the protestors literally crossed a line sunday when they went past this sign that says no public access beyond this point to reach the governor's front doors.

6 sec beshear: i will not be afraid.i will not be bullied.

And i will not back down.

Tuesday governor beshear took about 10 minutes of his hour long daily coronavirus briefing to address a dummy with his face on it hung in effigy..sunday 9 sec so let's start by calling it what it was, what it is.

Actions aimed at creating fear and terror.

A threat right outside the governor's mansion, a place his wife and nine and ten year olds also call home...something the governor got as heated about as any governor can.

10 sec beshear: that's about as far as i said it, i've not been bleeped once in these and i'm not gonna be bleeped today.

But i'm not gonna let a bunch of jerks change the way that we're living our life.

Bleeped in reference to censorship of cursing.

It wasn't the first time the capitol has seen a protest from this group...at these freedom rallies earlier this month... state lawmakers have spoken to the crowd..agreeing with the protestors.

9 sec beshear:they didn't get there alone.

They have been embraced and emboldened by elected leaders that rallied with them, weeks before.

Most notably, republican representative savannah maddox..listen to this at an earlier protest.

8 sec file: maddox:your house and you have every right to be here and don't ever let anyone tell you differently working.

She released a statement tuesday saying she wasn't at sunday's rally and condemned all acts of hatred...but did take a shot at the governor for the state's high unemployment rate since the pandemic hit.

Beshear says he is going to rethink some security measures in regards to his kids, but they're not going to move out.

10 sec monica: still, governor beshear says he doesn't regret moving his family into the mansion.
