State checking for coronavirus at Wayne Farms in Decatur

The alabama department of health told us its investigating the possibility of coronavirus at wayne farms in decatur.

The department won't confirm where people work.

But did say employees are trying to trace a case in the area.

Waay 31's alexis scott spent the day working to learn more.

His is the wayne farms chicken plant in decatur.

We spent the day calling and emailing the plant but haven't heard back.

A spokesperson did tell the decatur daily there's at least one confirmed case of coronavirus at the plant.

Last month, the company admitted about 75 workers got sick at the plant in albertville.

One of them died.

At the time, wayne farms said it was stepping up safety precautions.

But we don't know what changes were possibly made inside this plant in decatur.

The spokesperson did tell the paper, at least 15 tests came back through contact tracing.

Karen landers with the department of public health said contact tracing is key to stopping coronavirus.

Of public health "as part of our contact tracing and our ongoing efforts, we are going to be tracking some patients in the future for more demographic information and more data" doctor landers told me employees start tracing cases within 24 hours of the test.
