With a local basketball standout who is using social media to create a challenge to motivate others and to donate to coronavirus relief efforts.

Kaia henderson just finished a record- breaking basketball season at new hartford high school.

The young star broke new hartford's scoring record and has been named the section three, class a player of the year.

And she's just a sophomore.

While she leads her team on the court, she's also making a big impact off of it.

Since being in quarantine, henderson has created a motivational movement called the 10 thousand hours challenge.

Kaia henderson: her brothers who also played at new hartford helped her with the idea.

Kaia henderson: anyone can post a video on social media using the hashtag 1okhourschallenge and that enters you into a contest.

Kaia henderson: she's also using this opportunity to give back to those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

For every video submitted or posted, they will donate one dollar to the mohawk valley covid-19 response fund.

Kaia henderson: like most athletes right now, kaia says she misses her team but they still hangout - virtually.

Kaia henderson: she hopes that this challenge will make an lasting impact on others.

Kaia henderson: and what they do and i really want them to find something tey love to do.

Kaia says that during her time at home she's learning how to play the piano, she's an avid runner and says that she really wants to learn how to walk on her hands.
