Midmorning With Aundrea - March 31, 2020 (Part 1)

Dana, keep a very specical midmorning starts right now.

The coronavirus suddenly has millions of people working from home.

For many it's a brand new experience that takes some adjusting.

Nancy chen has some tips from those who've done it.

Like many americans javier and sabrina mercedes are working from home... "do you wan sweet potato?"

..while also taking care of two kids.

"nom, nom, no but this is not a new experience... they've been doing it for about two years.

Sabrina works in the healthcare technology industry..

"what's up merc nation javier mercedes here with another passion in progress show."

Javier is a youtube creator..

"wow that's goo energy."

With podcasts and video editing tutorials.

The couple takes turns with the kids.... allowing each other time to focus on work.

They also bought professional desks and chairs.

20:50 "one of th detriments of working from home is that you are always available"/ "we both have kid so we are forced to stop // when we didn't have kids we were both capable of working 16 hours straight."

One benefit of working from home is the flexibility to create your own schedule.

But experts say it is important to step away from work.

03:04 "keeping routine as much as you can is really great."

Mercey livingston is a wellness journalist who works from home.

"i would say wak up, shower, act like you are going into the office.// 06:38 once i sit down i get right into that work mindset and i pretend like i'm at an office livingston says it's also important to set work hours.

Take breaks..

And get some exercise.

05:17 "i've used my livin room as a gym for the past two years// 05:38 and i feel much more focused, energized for the rest of the day" javier and sabrina agree exercise and breaks are important.

"the biggest thin for me was taking advantage of taking walks outside."

They also enjoy other perks of working from home..

Like no longer having to commute.

Routines can get boring..

Especially when it comes to meal prepping.

Today on mom to mom, some fun ways to spice up your kid's lunch!

Take a look.

Mandy williamson: today on mom to mom we're going to show you how to bring some creativity back into those boring old school lunches.

Today we're making peanut butter and jelly sandwich kebabs.

I definitely love a good kebab, plus it always gets the kids involved.

They love making these and it's super easy.

This works with any kind of sandwich, really you just want to get the variety of fruits that they love on the kebab, plus they can just pick out whatever they want.

Today we have peanut butter and jelly, strawberries, banas and grapes.

We like using cookie cutters to cut out shapes in our sandwiches.

Mandy williamson: it helps with the kebabs and this square one is perfect for that.

Not only do the kids love making their lunch on a stick, but for whatever reason they really, really, really enjoy eating it off a stick too.

As parents, this allows us to give our kids the nutrients that they need and they actually want, plus it's a fun way to do it.

Not only is this fun for school lunches, but it's also great for parties or just to have on the weekends when kids come over.

As always moms, we'd love to hear those awesome ideas that you have.

You can post them to our facebook page and we'll see you on the next mom to mom.

If you are ready to let someone else cook, there are plenty of options.

Here's emily cassulo with tech byte.

Emily cassulo / tech byte you don't always have time to make a good home cooked meal, or get out to a restaurant.

So having food delivered right to your door is the next best thing!

Let's look at some smartphone apps that can help make that happen.

I'm emily cassulo and this is tech byte.

Food delivery apps / tech byte three apps are dominating restaurant delivery service, offering similar features.

Grubhub has partnered with 300,000 restaurants in more than 32- hundred u.s. cities.

It also prs more than half a million orders each day.

Doordash is another food delivery app that also has connections with 300,000 restaurants in 4,000 cities in the u.s. and canada.

In addition to food delivery, doordash also has an initiative to try to move $165 billion dollars of food waste to help feed 16 million u.s. households.

Once you place an order, you'll get text messages when the food is picked up and when it arrives at your doorstep.

Uber eats is much like door dash.

You can browse local restaurants, order, and then track your delivery in real time.

And if you need a ride, the service can also pick you up, and take you to the restaurant to pick up your order.

Not only do all of these apps work locally, they can also work when you travel to other parts of the country.

Emily cassulo / tech byte and another great thing about these apps is they're all free to download.

You might even get a discount or two the first time you use them, but don't forget to tip!

I'm emily cassulo, and that's this week's tech byte.
