Staff members put out fire at elementary school

The Lane Fire Authority was called to the school around 5 p.m.

But when they arrived, they found the fire had already been put out by a teacher and a maintenance worker

It was a close call this evening at an elementary school in crow when a dryer caught fire.

This all took place shortly after 5 p-m at crow- applegate elementary school.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live here in the studio to tell us more...and connor firefighter's weren't the ones who actually put out the fire correct?

That's right emma-- the superintendent and lane county fire authority told me it was a teacher and a maintence worker who put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

The superintent says if it wasn't for their quick thinking, he fears the fire could have been a lot worse.

The fire started shotrly after five this evening in a dryer that was full of towels.

When firefighters arrived the fire had already been put out by too staff members so they were tasked with clearing smoke in the building.

Crow-appelgate- lorane's superintendent says school will be open as usual tomorrow but the smell of the fire may linger.

Parents who might have concerns about kids with asthma conditions or sensitive to irritants like smoke.

We would leave that to their disgression on wether their kids come to school tomorrow.

The superintendent also says he is grateful for the two staff members who were in the shcool at the time.

He says if it wasn't for them, the fire could have been more destructive.

Lane fire authority says there was minimal damage to the school and no was injured.
