1mallory beard//mbeard@wfft.com "a lot of people say teamwork makes the dream work.

Well, norwell middle school students take this phrase to an entirely different level after bringing home first place from the future city national competition in washington d.c."

Bonnie dickey//norwell middle school teacher"i've been doing this job for 26 years and this is by far the highlight of my career."days later the team of teachers and seventh and eighth grade students were still in awe of their win.

Jordyn xayyachack//norwell middle school"it was an experience.

I was just like really?

That's us."

This wasn't their first win however.they took home first place at the regional competition earlier this year at purdue fort wayne.madeline mccabe//norwell middle school "it was kind of shocking because it's the first time indiana's ever made top 5.

So it was just kind of mindblowing that we made top 5 and won."the team constructed a science project named yemoja.

It reflected the city of johannesburg, south africa with hand crafted details showing water sustainability.

Each student had a part in the presentation, whether speaking or showing their research.

Stephanie scott//norwell middle school teacher"seeing the different ideas they came up with for the model, and just how much the kids improved with their speeches, and watching the way the kids worked together, the camaraderie that this group has is something special."

These students proved that a sustainable future is possible if you put your mind to it and work together -- gaining trophies and friends along the way.

Teagan lesley//norwell middle school"going through a whole team project for over a month, you really grow on these people and they become your friends."mallory beard//mbeard@wfft.com"in ossian, i'm mallory beard.
