Fasten your seat belt! Driving Pakistan's most dangerous road is not for the faint-hearted

The route to Shimshal, the last Pakistani village before the Chinese border, is not for the faint-hearted.

Here Pakistani traveller Adeel, who runs the Adeel On Wheels YouTube channel, takes his late granddad's beaten up 1982 Toyota Corolla across the treacherous Shimshal Valley Road.

At some points the road is nothing but a narrow single track with a 200m drop, bordered by a frightening drop off without guardrails.

The 56km road is considered the most dangerous in Pakistan and indeed the world, with an altitude of more than 3,000m above sea level.

According to one report, it was completed in 2003 after 18 years of construction.

Adeel, who has been been travelling his native Pakistan for the last 12 years, told Newsflare: "Travelling is my passion.

Last year I started a campaign called 'Lal Sawari,' taking my late grandfather's Corolla across the north of Pakistan and some of the most dangerous roads in the world.

"It took roughly six hours to get there.

The biggest challenge is that the road is a single narrow track with a 200m drop, so it leaves little to no space for mistakes or coming vehicles.

For me, I thrive off of adrenaline and adventure, so this was the perfect experience for me.

"I was a digital marketer in a big corporate company and I quit my job to seek my passion in life, which is travel and film-making.

The life of a digital nomad is not bound to a desk or an office.

I want to inspire people here to get out and explore their country.

"So far my travels have only taken me on endless routes across Pakistan but I'm looking now hoping to take my adventures overseas." Adeel made his trip in September 2019.
