Scientists Drop Alligator Carcasses on Seafloor for Feeding Experiment

Alligator bodies were placed on the Gulf of Mexico’s seafloor to see how scavengers would react to a rare type of food.

Turns out, the uncommon food source brought in a bunch of deep-sea scavengers and a newly discovered species of bone-eating “zombie worms.”
