'Marriage Story' leads Golden Globe nods, De Niro snubbed

Netflix dominated the Golden Globe nominations Monday, with divorce drama “Marriage Story” and Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” getting the most nods.

But there was no love for "Irishman" star Robert De Niro.

'Marriage Story' leads Golden Globe nods, De Niro snubbed

The Golden Globe nominations were announced Monday, and the most famous name not heard was Robert De Niro.

De Niro was handed a surprise snub for his lead role in "The Irishman," which otherwise scored five nominations, including for co-stars Al Pacino and Joe Pesci and director Martin Scorsese.

The gangster film was second only to divorce drama "Marriage Story" for most nods.

That scored six - stars Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver among the nominees.

That Netflix produced both films reflects this year's unprecedented dominance of the streaming service.

Netflix nailed the most nominations of any network or studio, including for feature films. In fact, four Netflix movies are up for best picture prizes, including "Dolemite Is My Name," with star Eddie Murphy up for Best Actor.

Streaming services on the whole out-shined broadcast and cable.

Class="kln">Apple's TV+ landed its first major nominations for "The Morning Show" and stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

As for other notable oversights, "Game of Thrones" got only one nod, while "When They See Us" got none at all.

Ava DuVernay's acclaimed miniseries about an attack on a Central Park jogger and the terrible misjustice that followed earned 16 Emmy nominations this year but zero Golden Globe nods, sparking backlash in headlines and on social media.

The Golden Globe awards, hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais, air January 5th.
