For wtva sports im erin wilson the state championships for high school football kicked off today in hattiesburg..

Earlier today noxubee county fell to jefferson davis county 25-15 in the 3a state championship..

But nanih waiyah won the 1a state championship for the second year in a row against lumberton at three today right now for the first time ever in the school's history the oxford chargers are state champions beating oak grove 31-21 for the 6a state championship trophy.

But lets recap the first half... oxford looking to take down oak grove which is only 20 minutes away from m m roberts stadium... oak grove qb damon stewart took the keeper and drops it... both teams scramble for it and oxford recovered... they then convert a jack tannehille field goal... stewart looked to the endzone and found stavion smith to give the warriors a 7-3 lead... next oak grove drive... the warriors drove down the field and eugene newell punched it in for 6... warriors look to get one more score in before the half... brandon hayes takes the slant pass 59 yards to get into charger territory... this may look familier stewart acts like he doesn't know the play call, the ball is snapped to the running back who handed it to quinten sterling who tossed it back to stewart for the touch down... the philly special... like i said earlier the chargers are now state champs final score 31-21.

Lets go to wtva's evan hensley to see all the excitement right now.

28 points... that is how many oxford scored in an unanswered second half... the chargers did not give up when they were down 21-3 at halftime... and now in attempt number 5... oxford is your 6a state champions... the charger defense which recorder 4 sacks on the held the high power oak grove offense to 0 in the second half... i asked star jj pegues who 141 all purpose yards about what led to this rally... what we did."

"i got this senior class with me man, we were counted out since day one now look at us.

That's heart, heart!

I'll be honest it wasn't anything out of the ordinary we just said this is what we do we don't back down when we face adversity.

We put on more steam and that's what we did."
