That's all on fox 24 news now.
>> well, thank you so much for joining us.
It's that time of year when you can flaunt that ugly subsequenter with out raising eyebrows, and the perfect place to wear one is at the ugly sweater dash.
Here is megan, director for the arc of south carolina, and she's joined by two volunteers and our social media manager, sonya sharis, and sweet dogo, odie, to help these jumpy jumpers, and thank you so much for being here everyone, and i love your insteader, and -- sweater and the ones that light up too.
The arc of south carolina is so important to the community and maybe you can introduce it to the audience.
>> the arc has been here for 24 years, and we provide a respite program for alzheimer's providers, to get a break in the day, and we do educational classes, and support groups, and we want to be a resource for the families while they're on their care giving journey.
>> and there are 92,000 of them in south carolina?
>> in our area, it's 16,000, and that's just the ones that have been diagnosed with alzheimer's.
>> any time we talk about alzheimer's, the caretaker is often a family member, and that number is even larger.
You're talking twice as many.
>> most definitely.
It's a full-time job and we want to be there as a resource and we want them to know we're there for them and guiding inner their journey.
>> and you wear one of these, and tell us about the dash.
>> this is about the second year, and just to get in the holiday spirit, come out with your family and friends and coworkers.
It's a 5k walk, and we do a one-mile stroll, and this year, they're going to do a live nateist scene, and it's just a great course, flat and shaded and hopefully the weather is right.
>> it's hopefully chilly out there, there's nothing worse than a sweaty wool sweater, right?
And let's talk about where the sweaters came from, and some of the other things encouraged to be worn during the race.
Let's start with the obvious, the flashy hats and headbands, and those are great.
>> the jazzy legs, and anything to get into that festive spirit and come on out.
We have had, i remember leggings last year, a couple of shirts and we had reindeer ears, and just everything.
A nice little variety.
>> and last butten least, of course the sweaters themselves.
You can make one yourself, but there's one place that has a plethora of fantastic sweaters and where would you buy these?
>> kyle's ugly sweaters, and i went down there, and oh, my gosh, we're having an ugly sweater dash.
>> uncle kyle's sweater emporium, i have to talk with a both of you.
And you're volunteers with the organization, and how long have you been there.
>> about seven years.
>> and do you have a family member suffering from alzheimer's?
>> i previously did, but she has passed.
>> what was that experience like for you?
>> it was challenging.
At first, we didn't know what was wrong, and finding the resources was one the biggest challenges.
>> and confining the resources at the ark, how did that help your family?
>> at the time i didn't have knowledge about the ark at that time with my grandmother.
>> how about you, sir?
>> i've been there for 24 years, my wife is the executive director and founder.
>> jim is our number one volunteer.
>> and the ark, i know i talked to other people who use your resources and they say it's worth its weight in gold.
It's so necessary to be able to do the things that we all take for granted, right?
And of course we have to draw our attention to sonya.
You're doing a great job.
>> i have a great model.
>> are dogs allowed on the ugly sweater dash.
>> not on the course, but they're more than welcome to come and just be a spectator if you like.
>> and it's fun to dress them up.
You can find the sweaters at uncle kyle's sweater emporium.
