Feed the Four States 12-05
Tonight at 6 right here on fox 14.
>> our annual fee.
The 4 states campaign is officially underway.
We go live to joplin with our very own jesse irwin you can tell us more about this year's efforts to fight hunger right here in the 4 states.
>> yeah so tonya the term food insecurity with the usda uses to describe anyone who doesn't have convenient access to the necessary foods needed in order to live a healthy life now 16% of people here in the four-state area.
Our living a life that is food insecurity that's almost one out of every 5 people.
So here's how we're fighting that statistic we are doing feed the 4 states here and we're here at the sonic right now in joplin where we're collecting donations we're going to be doing this all month long those donations are canned goods, it's and no food items of any sort, but you know nonperishable an unexpired you name it we're going to be accepting those and we're going to be donating all those along with sonic and other partners over to we're going to across lines region at them to water gardens or 2 spots in joplin and in pittsburgh for don't in the wesley house know again one in every almost 5 people.
Our food in securing the area and we're making sure that we can combat those stats and change the way that people have access to these foods so you know stop by tonight from 4 to 08:00pm we're going to be having you know if you want to drop them off or going to the sites offering to give you a free medium drink with that and we're just really trying to make this as known as possible and cut down that number because that is that it's far far too many so we spoke with roddy rambo from cross lines earlier about this and they serve 1900 people in the joplin webb city area alone each month, so tiny it's it's needed now more than ever.
And just say you were just talking with live here and though with them across lines in joplin.
>> did you happen to mention to you like what items they're in need of most that you could donate.
>> frankly tanya, it's it's any items that you can bring great and he can bring canned goods that's always great but i mean produce a few they they're given the stuff out very very quickly so you know it's not going to go and sit on a shelf for months, i mean this is every single day they're going around and picking up food from local grocery stores and you know our our places like our cans rate hears i mean you name it they will accept anything.
They have these partnerships with grocery stores and other places as well where they can actually take a monetary donation that a one dollar and they might be able to get 5 times as many cans as it.
You know they just except one canceled.
Financial donations are really appreciated, especially given this partnerships.
>> jessie thank you very much.
