Mayo Clinic's therapy dog Luna celebrates one year anniversary

Health system celebrates its first facility dog's one year anniversary.

Luna has added a dimension of care to mayo that only a dog can.

She travels to other clinics in the region, including onalaska, sparta and tomah with her handler, lisa morgan.

Luna regularly visits and works in many departments, including rehab services, cardiac rehab and hospice.

"it's been pretty magical actually.

Really the growth of this program and the impact luna has had is bigger than i ever could have imagined.

The interactions she's had with patients, their family members, staff memebers have been just incredible.

Really the energy that just changes is just palpable when she walks into a room or just down a hall.

" luna averages 20 interactions each day between patients, families and staff.

She can be requested to provide comfort or can be active using her special skills to help in patient therapy.
