Logan High School weight room getting upgrade as part of $2,500 grant

Teachers and faculty members got quite the surprise at logan high school today.

The la crosse public education foundation granted logan seven gold star grants to help improve the school.

News 8's tyler job is here to tell us how one grant in particular is going to make the workout room safer for students.

Mike and martha ... the weight room was due for an upgrade.

A lot of the equipment students and athletes are using right now is older and not in good condition.

But this new grant is going to change all of that for the better.

"it should be a regular thing to stay in shape, and stay healthy and be able to compete at a high level."

Logan high school junior nathaniel powell constantly uses the weight room to prepare for gameday.

"like it's kinda like the calm before the storm.

It makes you wake up and it's just like, just can't wait to get on the court or the field or whatever it is."

Powell must stay in shape for the four teams he's on.

"i'm on the boys basketball team, on the track team, and i play soccer and i also kick for the football team."

But the weight room has been a problem for the student athletes.

"we have a lot of kids who have to lift in the hallways right now because we don't have good space."

It especially hurts the football team.

"just when football lifts, they usually have to do it in shifts."

Nats congratulat ions but the la crosse public education foundation did the heavy lifting and granted 25- hundred- dollars to improve the space and equipment.

"these are opportuniti es to try something new that's not been done before.

And to plant a seed and hope that it grows."

"we want to rearrange a big part of it.

We need to just get rid of old equipment, move things around."

It looks like this grant will help logan high school students reach their potential.

"our goal is to really make this a space that's open and functional for everybody, where everybody can feel safe."

And for powell, it's only going to help him get better.

"i want to excel, i want to hopefully play at the next level, whether that'd be in basketball, soccer, track, anything."

Gilge also told me that some of the machines in the weight room could be used more ... but aren't because they're aging.

In addition to the 25-hundred dollar grant from the l-p-e-f, gilge said the weight room also got seven thousand dollars from the packers.

Thanks a lot tyler.

In addition to the weight room ... logan high school also got grants for other things including... more classroom libraries and even a washer and dryer to help students who don't
