The Locker Room: Five Boys Basketball Teams to Watch

Wfft dot com... speaking of central noble..

Hard to believe, but boys basketball season is now less than a week away..with games starting on tuesday, tonight we're gonna give you five area teams to watch this winter..

And our countdown begins with... you gussed it... the cougars...john bodey and company are coming off of their best season since the start of the century..the cougs finished 15-8 last year, and although they lose ridley zolman to graduation, several key contributers return..

That includes standout sophomore connor essegian, who averaged over 18 points per game as a freshman..

The cougs will open up at canterbury on tuesday..

From the ne-cc to the ne-8..

The norwell knights check in at number four on our list..

And oh, what a fun season it's setting up to be down in ossian..michael mcbride's team is coming off a solid 14-10 campaign, and several of his starters are back..that includes star senior will geiger, who put up over 19 points and nine rebounds per game last year..

The knights open their season at the cage against concordia on wesnesday..

We move north to the summit city, as the snider panthers make an appearance at number three in our countdown..and jeremy rauch may have the most experienced roster in the area this year..eight seniors will pace the panthers, led by dillon duff..junior michael eley is back as well..that dynamic duo of duff and eley combined to average over 31 points per game a season ago..

The panthers will open their campaign at merrillville on november 30th, also known as the great steve hood's birthday..

Staying in the s-a-c..and if snider or anyone else wants that title this year, they're gonna have to go through homestead to get it..the spartans come into this season as co-defending champs along with northrop and carroll..

Those other two teams lost quite a bit..

Homestead, on the other hand, did not..

Sparty returns several key pieces from a squad that won 21 games a year ago..that includes one of the best players in the state in junior luke goode..

The spartans open their season with a trip to huntington north on wednesday..

And the top team in our countdown is the lone defending state champion in our area..blackhawk christian bumps up a class this season to 2a after winning the 1a crown last year...the braves lose four key players..

Including the school's all- time leading scorer frankie davidson...but with a core returning including juniors caleb furst, zane burke and marcus davidson this group likes where they are heading..

Blackhawk opens their season december tenth
