Elizabeth Warren Offers to Explain Wealth Tax Plan to Bill Gates

Bill Gates Opposes Elizabeth Warren’s Wealth Tax Plan.

The Microsoft founder shared his views Wednesday at The New York Times DealBook Conference.

I’ve paid over $10 billion in taxes.

I’ve paid more than anyone in taxes.

If I had to pay $20 billion, it’s fine, but when you say I should pay $100 billion, then I’m starting to do a little math about what I have left over.

, Bill Gates, via NYT Dealbook Conference.

Gates added that he didn’t think Warren would “even be willing to sit down with somebody who has large amounts of money.” .

The Democratic presidential candidate responded to Gates on Twitter later that day.

I'm always happy to meet with people, even if we have different views.

@BillGates, if we get the chance, I'd love to explain exactly how much you'd pay under my wealth tax.

(I promise it's not $100 billion.) , Elizabeth Warren, via Twitter.

Warren’s plan calls for a 2% wealth tax on those with more than $50 million and a 3% tax on every dollar of net worth above $1 billion.

The wealth tax would help fund programs such as “Medicare for All.”
