Potential refugee executive action could impact Twin Falls

Six will be right back.

Joe>> an executive order could put a freeze on refugees coming into the united states... a draft of it was released yesterday.... jeffrey dahdah talked to college of southern idaho refugee program and is here to tell us about it... thanks joe... if that executive order gets signed...the refugee center says that they are ready to move forward... nats most days at the college of southern idaho refugee center there are english classes... it's empty now...but throughout the day refugees fill classrooms like this one primarily to learn english skills... it's one of the services the center has to help refugees get settled in the area... "we have refugees in our community and they still need our help."

President trump is considering an executive order that would put a hold on refugees entering the country... a draft of that order came out yesterday that iff passed would..

"suspend the u.s. refugee admissions program for 120 days..."

During that time the secretary of state and homeland security would review the process."

"if that is the route he is taking to keep america safe then it means good for citizens and for the refugees that are already here.."

Nats some legislators for twin falls understand the reasoning for wanting a stronger vetting process... "my posiion has always been that we should be very careful..but compassionate at the same time...in other words i think that the refugee program in twin falls does a great job...they don't find the refugees, but they are open to helping them."

"if the executive order is signed it doesn't mean that this building is shut down...it just means that they have stop accepting more refugees..they'll still be able to do their other services though..."

We have refugees that are already in our community that need our services, so we will be focusing on trying to provide services to our clients, our refugees that are already here."

Those services include case management...employment services...english classes and transportation.... ze-ze also said that he thinks that the new administration will find the current refugee acceptance process
