EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS UPDATES FROM 1433-HONGKONG-PROTESTS WITH NEW IMAGES FROM LOCAL MEDIA Another weekend in Hong Kong ended in chaos.

Anti-government protests here are now in their 10th week.

Thousands of demonstrators turned out to clash with police in smoke-filled scenes that seem to be set on repeat.

And the violence is only getting worse.

As night fell on Sunday (August 11) clashes spread across the territory.

Footage captured by local TV showed police chasing protesters down into a subway station and beating them as they tried to escape.

Meanwhile, across town media reported that a young protester had been hit in the eye with a beanbag round fired by police.

She was rushed to the hospital.

At yet another hotspot, reports that police fired tear gas straight into a subway station prompted residents to vent their fury.

You're behaving like dogs." Protests first kicked off in June as opposition to a bill that would allow people to be extradited to mainland China to stand trial.

But lately, the activists have raised the stakes, stepping up their demands to include greater democracy and an independent investigation into the handling of the protests.

So far, Hong Kong's leaders have failed to find a solution to the crisis.

Meaning next weekend may end up looking a lot like the last.
