Heavy Rain Soaks Eastern Kansas

Up to 10 inches of rain fell in eastern Kansas from July 31 to August 1, flooding the towns of Ottawa and Lawrence, local media reported.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued an additional flash-flood watch for the region on Thursday, August 1, and said storms were expected to continue through Saturday, possibly bringing up to six more inches of rainfall.

The NWS also said the heavy rain could bring โ€œlargeโ€ hail and โ€œdamagingโ€ winds.

Local media said more than 3.5 inches of rain were recorded at the Lawrence Municipal Airport on Thursday morning and several roads in Lawrence were closed due to flooding.
