A manhunt is underway in Canada after the bodies of Chynna Deese and Lucas Fowler were discovered last week along a remote highway in British Columbia.

Police say the American woman traveled there to visit her Australian boyfriend.

The two were on a road trip, planning to visit national parks.

A blue Chevrolet van the young couple was believed to have been traveling in was also found at the scene, near Liard Hot Springs, a local tourist attraction.

Curtis and Sanda Broughton say they pulled over to help the couple when they noticed their broken down van but left after it appeared the couple would be ok.

SOUNDBITE: SANDRA BROUGHTON, PASSERBY WHO SPOKE WITH THE YOUNG COUPLE, SAYING: "We were there to help them.

Like almost like a angel there to help them in a way, like trying to be good and help them.

But yet that same day the complete opposite of humanity hurt them like that and killed them so tragically." Canadian police are investigating their deaths as homicides.

Authorities are not clear if the couple was targeted or if it was a crime of opportunity.
