Hong Kong Police Struggle to Contain Anti-Parallel Trading Protests in Hong Kong

Police in Sheung Shui, Hong Kong, struggled to contain a July 13 protest against parallel traders from mainland China.

Sheung Shui is near the border with Shenzhen in mainland China.

South China Morning Post reported that the protesters built barriers to disrupt police attempts to reinforce officer numbers on the ground, forcing officers to retreat to a nearby town hall.

The tensions are due to goods shortages caused by traders from the mainland buying household items in bulk to take back across the border.

The first video shows two groups of people facing off against each other, with people in the larger group throwing objects at the smaller group, while the second shows a barrier being erected.
