Tom Holland returns for the fifth time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man.

This time, he's going on a trip with his school friends to Europe but, of course, things don't run smoothly and he has to don the Spider suit to put things right.

Jake Gyllenhaal joins the franchise as Mysterio, a villain in the comics but, in the promotional material, appears to be an ally of Spider-Man.

Gyllenhaal admitted the pair became firm friends on set because they had so much in common.

He told Reuters "He's a lovely human being who's very grateful for the position that he's in and both of us started acting very young.

I mean, he's still very young but very young.

And I think we really bonded there and I think when you start that young there's a certain discipline and craft and he started out on the stage actually and he comes from a family of performers, which I do too, so I just think he's a devoted, very physical actor and he's just a lovely human being." Samuel L.

Jackson, whose character Nick Fury is keeping track of Spider-Man in the film, agreed with Gyllenhaal saying "Tom is an amazing ball of energy that kind of embodies everything that young people are.

His enthusiasm is great, his sincerity is real, his desire to be young and not be responsible for saving the world - let me just be a kid - is genuine and he's just a wonderful individual." Although 'Avengers: Endgame' was thought to be the last chapter in Phase 3 of the MCU, 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' has taken that honor.

'Spider-Man: Far From Home' goes on release in the United States on July 2.
