VARIOUS OF HUNT, PAREDES AND JONES ON THE PODIUM STORY: Reigning Cliff Diving World Series champions Gary Hunt and Rhiannan Iffland secured victories on stage four of the 2019 edition amidst spectacular scenery in the Azores islands, Portugal on Saturday (June 22).

Hunt - a seven-times world series champion - was pushed all the way by Mexico's Jonathan Paredes who produced a flawless final dive, but the Britain had the greater consistency and remained calm under pressure on his final leap.

Paredes, the 2017 World Series winner, had to be content with second place despite getting six 10's on the judges scorecards across the weekend as he finished just three points shy of Hunt.

Hunt's 420.60 points total was enough for his third win of the season as he extended his overall lead.

USA's Andy Jones did enough for third.

In the women's competition, Australia's Iffland leapt to a record-breaking fourth straight stage victory this season and her fifth win in a row across seasons - something no other female athlete has yet achieved.

Iffland chose a straight forward final dive to chalk up an overall score of 326.80.

Britain's Jessica Macaulay was second on only her 10th appearance at a Cliff Diving World Series as she grabbed her first podium finish of the season, ahead of Canadian diver Lysanne Richard who finished third.

The Portuguese volcanic islands are regarded as the perfect spot for cliff divers due to their rugged cliff edges and spectacular scenery.
