One construction worker tells me that drivers need to slow down.... at the intersection of dodge and beagle road -- jackson county road crews are hard at work "we are doing some pavement preservation projects -- we are chip sealing the roads.

Which basically means they are adding longevity to the roads 'its a technique where we shoot a layer of oil down the road, cover it with rock roll it in.

It will gives us about 7 to 10 years of life on these roads.

Cheatum has been working for jackson county roads for 18 years "my buddy was into it and we've been working together for sometime and i just kinda followed him.

And after last nights crash on highway 140 that killed on of their own -- he knows one thing for sure.

Odot says that there were 10 injury crashes in work zones from 2013 - 2018.

"your family is always the reason why you get into this and we always want to go home.

We always want to go spend more time with them but you know we have a job that we have to do but we also want to make sure that we do it in a safe manner.

Doing a job to help keep the roads safe and they ask for you to do the same for them.
