Close to 2 million fans cheered the NBA champion Toronto Raptors in a victory celebration that united the nation, but the party was marred by a shooting that seriously wounded two people.

A stampede of screaming Toronto Raptors fans ran in fear on Monday.

Kicking up a cloud of dust after shots were fired in the middle of the city's NBA championship festivities.

A crowd of close to 2 million flooded the streets to celebrate Canadaโ€™s first ever NBA title.

But the party was soon marred by a shooting that seriously wounded two people.

The gunshots rang out near Nathan Phillips Square, the parade's final destination, causing hundreds of people to scatter for cover.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in attendance along with Canadian-born rap artist Drake - one of the team's most prominent and outspoken fans.

Toronto police said two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two others were taken into custody, and two firearms were recovered.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
