A Judge Told A Sexual Assault Victim She Should Have Closed Her Legs. Here's What Happened

An ethics committee has recommended a three-month, unpaid suspension for a New Jersey judge.

Superior Court Judge John Russo sits on the bench in Ocean City, southern New Jersey.

According to HuffPost, Judge Russo told a woman she could “close your legs” to prevent a sexual assault.

The committee released its recommendation to the state Supreme Court Wednesday.

Russo has disputed that he violated judicial rules, saying he was seeking more information and wasn’t trying to humiliate the woman.
