And joins us live to show us what it will look like.

That's right jillian?

This expansion has been in the works for more than 6 years...and today it's finally off the ground.

Let me give you an idea of what this space will look like... right now?

I'm standing in what will be the market alley....with cafes and shops... that's just one part of this expansion?

That they started*today?

With a ground breaking ceremony 1, 2, 3?

Drill noise they used a*gold jackhammer?

Instead of the traditional shovels... a lot of city and county officials came to the ceremony today?

Which kick starts this expansion... that includes a boutique hotel, 12?

Unit apartment building, and commercial space for retail and offices.

The vice president of obie companies?

The developer of this project says casey, "as a community for a long time now we've been talking about needing dense housing downtown core and bringing more of a destination downtown so this checks all the boxes and what the community has been looking for."

He says construction will this project will also bring jobs to the area?

Live from downtown eugene amber wilmarth kezi to oakridge now... where a home caught fire and quickly spread to nearby hills.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire... but the home was a total loss.

The homeowner only suffered minor injuries.

She says she was running here at alton baker park around this time yesterday..

When she was she says as she went to run across the peter defazio bridge..

She noticed four men at the bottom of the bridge.

As she got closer to them..

She says the four men approached her..

And tried to grab her.

She got away..

And got onto the ruth bascom bike path heading towards skinner butte.

That's when she noticed..

They were still after "as i continued towards skinner's butte a car appeared and it ended up being the same four men.

They yelled something at me and they kept going, but fortunately i was able to get to my friends and they kept going on their way."

She describes one of the men as tall..

It also includes legislation for six other areas of the government..all shutdown for 35 days as a result of the border fight because of the recent partial federal government shutdown, people who receive snap benefits will get them*early again in march.

Oregonians who normally receive their snap benefits between the first and ninth of each month will get their benefits on the first.

This is the*second month they've been given out ahead of time.

Kezi nine news reporter emma jerome spoke with the eugene police chief to find out just who this tax jerome: "police are saying that the services that would benefit from this tax are of huge importance" chris skinner: "the demand for the services has outpaced our supply.

We just dont have the supply to meet the demands this community has and its demands that they deserve to have met.

So we are trying to find a way to raise the revenue and raise the capacity... increase the capacity of the system to be able to serve the community members" the new tax would deduct a percentage of both the total payroll of a company as well as a portion of each employee's paycheck.

Abut tw?thirds of revenue from this tax would benefit public safety such as increased hiring in the police and fire departments.

Ej:"coming up at 5 here from people with a cooz bay, north bend and the c?kwille indian tribe, will soon pay "two and a half percent" more in taxes when people stay in their hotels.

Starting in april, facilities will collect a "nine and a half percent" tax every time someone stays overnight.
