Massive AT&T/Time Warner Merger Just Took A Huge Step Forward

Wochit - Thursday, 14 June 2018

According to Digital Trends, a federal judge approved a proposed merger allowing telecom giant AT&T to purchase entertainment conglomerate Time Warner on Tuesday, rejecting an attempt by the Justice Department to block the 85 billion dollar deal.

The deal would give AT&T control of all Time Warner properties, including HBO, CNN, Warner Brothers Entertainment, DC Comics, all the Turner networks, and a ten-percent stake in Hulu.

In the wake of the recent repeal of Net Neutrality, the deal would allow AT&T to prioritize first-party content like HBO Now over competing services like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

Digital Trends suggests that by owning both the networks, and the media that viewers want to watch, AT&T would have the power to dictate the terms on which that content is seen..
