Former Trader Joe's Exec Launches Cheaper Grocery Store

You can thank former Trader Joe's President, Doug Rauch, for helping keep their food prices low. That was one of his main focal points during his 31-year career there. In 2012, he launched Daily Table, an even more affordable grocery store, currently with two locations โ€”Dorchester and Roxbury, Massachusetts. The Harvard Leadership Fellow's mission is to help solve America's hunger crisis, which effects about 41 million people. He explains, ""We have one in six Americans that are hungry, and we're one of the richest nations in the history of the world in food.

Somewhere between 30% and 40% of the food we grow is just going to waste โ€” it's not being consumed." His store, Daily Table is a not-for-profit retail store that sells whole foods like produce, meat, and prepared meals for super low prices. Daily Table keeps costs low by selling food that's nearing its expiration date and not accepted by other grocery stores. Rauch adds, "We don't sell anything past its code date, so the customer is getting everything in front of its code date, but they're getting it at phenomenally cheap prices.".
