Hong Kong leader says national security legislation to improve business confidence: Xinhua

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said late on Friday the Chinese proposal to impose national security laws on Hong Kong will improve business confidence in the city and will not damage the interests of foreign investors, China's state news agency Xinhua reported.

Scuffles break out between Hong Kong legislators over security freedoms
China has announced new national security legislation for Hong Kong that could threaten the city's traditional freedoms. Scuffles broke out in the Hong Kong Legislative Council on Friday as opposition members protested against the move. National security laws are routinely used on the Chinese mainland to jail critics of the ruling Communist Party.
