One News Page never sleeps, and certainly never slows down for Christmas – while we’re all ready to kick back and enjoy the festive period ahead of us, there’s still time to take stock of some of the biggest stories to have graced the media in the past seven days. As always, here’s our weekly take on the news in brief.

Trump Threatens Government Lockdown
Remember US President Trump’s pledge to build a wall between the US and Mexico? At the time of writing, the Commander in Chief is continuing to threaten to shut down the US government unless at least $5 billion is offered up in budget planning to help bring his border wall project to life. At the time of going to press, things are still in a rather tense stalemate – what will happen next?

Fortnite Faces Dancing Lawsuits
No, it’s not the lawyers who are dancing – it’s the likes of Alfonso Ribeiro, 2 Milly and ‘Backpack Kid’ who are pursuing damages against Epic Games as a result of their hugely popular game Fortnite containing alleged likenesses of their famous dance moves without copyright permission. Epic has refused to comment during the claims’ processing, meaning we could be in for a fairly dramatic conclusion in the weeks to come.

YouTube Rewind Should Perhaps Just ‘Undo’ Altogether
This year’s supposed celebration of the best of YouTube has been disliked by viewers on the video streaming platform to such an extent that the 2018 Rewind has overtaken Justin Bieber’s promos for ‘Baby’ as the least popular video ever uploaded to the site. That’s a rather shaky achievement – though there is the argument that the video’s infamy is continuing to add to its view count.

Carlsberg Launches Plastic-Friendly Packaging
In a bold, yet celebrated move to help tackle tons of plastic being flushed out into the ocean each year, Danish beer giants Carlsberg have this week revealed an incredible new way for their beer cans to be packaged together – via an ingenious adhesive, which is easy to tear off, but difficult to interrupt in transit. The new design is being trialled in the UK, and it could well lead to other brands and parties taking to removing hugely unpopular plastic ring systems altogether. A great week for fighting back against plastic!

As always, we’ll be back next week to look at the week in news in brief – look forward to our post-Christmas glance at the headlines soon!
