It’s been another week in news – and while perhaps not as dramatic as some of the events we’ve seen in the weeks leading up to the summer so far, there’s still plenty to be looking at and discussing. In case you’ve missed anything – here’s our quick rundown of some of our picks from the week just gone.

Is Facebook Back in Hot Water?
New findings shared by The New York Times suggest that Facebook may have shared user data with several high-profile phone manufacturers up to a certain point – bringing us right back to the discussions regarding Cambridge Analytica only a few weeks ago. One of the biggest concerns this new data brings is the fact that one of the manufacturers is Eastern brand Huawei – who US intelligence has warned pose a security risk to Western users.

Weinstein Pleads Not Guilty
It’s come to this – the first criminal charges facing fallen movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who faces accusations of rape and other sexual congress, have brought the figurehead into court. The case will be a pivotal moment for the #MeToo campaign, which sought to bring names such as Weinstein – allegedly responsible for abusing his position to pressure women into sexual acts – into the foreground. The landscape is shifting – and despite Weinstein pleading not guilty, it will remain to be seen how this case plays out.

Solo is Losing Money
It’s not been a great week for Disney – as reports suggest that their latest Star Wars effort, Solo, could lose $50 million or more at the worldwide box office. If this is to play out as expected, it will be the first Star Wars movie to lose money – does this mean that a new strategy will be on the cards for Star Wars prequels in future? With split opinion still running rampant on The Last Jedi, this is one franchise which has always struggled to maintain a clear consensus with fans – at least beyond the first three movies.

Two Big Animated Trailers Land
Two goliath new animated movies from Disney and Dreamworks have been teased fully this week, with the former’s Ralph Breaks The Internet and the latter’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World having set animation fans abuzz. The sequel to Wreck-It Ralph is set to be released this holiday season, with Dragons 3 due to arrive next spring – though before any of that, Pixar is to return with The Incredibles 2 very soon indeed.
