Lok Sabha elections: Lost Your Voter ID? Here's how to get a replacement

NEW DELHI: As the Lok Sabha elections commence, possessing a EPIC (Election photo identity card), commonly known as voter ID card is crucial for casting a vote. Therefore, if a voter is unable to use or access the card, obtaining a duplicate voter ID becomes necessary. Here's what you can do in case you have lost your voter ID-

When can a duplicate voter card be obtained?

A duplicate voter ID can be obtained if:

The original ID is lost.
The original card is stolen.
The original ID is damaged.

How to apply for the duplicate card?
Voters can apply for a duplicate card through online or offline methods:
Online method via website/app:

Visit the website: https://voters.eci.gov.in or use the voters helpline app.
Sign in to your portal account. For new users, create a new account and then log in. In the app, click on "voter services" and then "form 8".
Select "form 8" and then choose "Issue of Replacement EPIC without correction".
Fill out the details carefully, and select the reason for replacement.
If the card is stolen, attach a copy of the FIR/police report. In case of damage, submit the old EPIC.
Note the reference number provided after submission.
Track the application status by logging into your portal, visiting your profile, clicking "track application status," and entering the reference number.

Offline method:

Visit the nearest electoral office near your residence and request the form to replace EPIC or download Form 8 from https://voters.eci.gov.in/
Fill the form with all required details.
Attach the necessary documents, such as a copy of the FIR/police report in the case of a stolen/misplaced ID.
Submit the form at the electoral office.
Once the details are verified, a new EPIC will be issued.
