Story Highlights

  • Samsung is now offering free screen replacements to Galaxy S22 and S21 users.
  • The devices eligible for the replacement programme must have the green line issue.
  • Currently, only select Samsung devices are eligible for the replacement.

Samsung users have been facing a serious issue with some of their phones where a single or, in some instances, multiple green lines appear on the screen. This issue has been around since last year, so much so that Samsung had to acknowledge it while offering one-time free screen replacement for out-of-warranty phones. These were select models with the maximum number of complaints, but some older Samsung phones have reported the same issue. Now, Samsung has expanded the list of supported smartphones to include the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21.

Green line issue in Samsung

While there have been several instances where Samsung Galaxy users have reported the green line issue on their phones, the most recent cases are coming from Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 users. Android Authority spotted several such cases where a permanent green line began appearing on the display after installing the April security patch. The Galaxy S21 users. including owners of Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S21 FE, could be most impacted by this issue. However, rare cases of models such as Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy M21, and Galaxy M52 5G showing vertical green lines have also emerged.

In most cases, the touchscreen is responsive, causing no issues in touch input or functionality. However, users understand a green line on their display could result from an internally cracked screen. Screen replacement is the only way to solve this issue, but it is expensive, especially for premium phones out of warranty. Since the problem is widespread, Samsung started offering a one-time free screen replacement for phones outside their warranty. According to mobile hardware experts, the appearance of one or multiple green lines on the screen could be a hardware issue, although only a thorough check-up can reveal the actual cause.

Although this is not Samsung’s first rodeo, the company has not neglected any impacted users. The result is expanding the list of supported models for a one-time free screen replacement.

  • Long press the Samsung Members app icon and tap Error Reports.
  • Tap OK to agree to send system log data and then choose Display.
  • Describe the problem with the display and send it to the company.

Alternatively, you can visit a Samsung service centre for the diagnosis of the impacted phone.
