Story Highlights

  • Android's eSIM transfer tool is a quicker way of transferring eSIM.
  • However, only select Android phones support this feature.
  • Those phones that do not have the feature can rely on the traditional way.

Google introduced its eSIM transfer tool last year at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The feature allows Android users to transfer their eSIM from one device to another with a couple of taps on the screen. However, the feature was limited to Pixel phones. But now, it is reaching more devices. As of writing this guide, the quick eSIM transfer tool is available on Google Pixel phones and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Having said that, if you own any of the recent Google phones or have Samsung’s best device of the year, you can follow the steps below to transfer eSIMs speedily. Do note that the following process shows transferring eSIM from an existing Android phone to a brand-new Pixel or Samsung device.

Those who do not have the aforementioned phones, don’t need to fret as Google has confirmed it’s making the feature available on more phones soon. For now, you have to follow the traditional method of transferring eSIM by contacting your telecom operator.

How to transfer eSIM between Android phones (Using the eSIM transfer tool)

Before we get started, make sure your Pixel phone or Galaxy S24 Ultra is on the latest version of Android.

Step 1: Bring the phone you want to transfer the eSIM from closer to your Pixel or Galaxy S24 Ultra (or other supported devices, which Google may add soon).

Step 2: Now, power on your new device for the first time.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the page where it asks you to Connect to a Mobile Network.

Step 4: You should see an option that says ‘Transfer SIM From Another Device’. Tap on it.

Step 5: Since your existing phone is closer to the new device, it should get a pop-up asking you to Transfer SIM to X device (name of the phone). Tap on that option.

Step 6: Now, scan the QR code displayed on your new smartphone.

Step 7: Complete the on-screen instructions. Once done, you may want to get your telecom operator’s confirmation.

That’s how you can easily transfer your eSIM from an existing Android phone to a new one using the eSIM transfer tool. It is to be noted that the above process may change depending on the region. So it may or may not work in some places.

Since the feature is now only accessible on select phones such as Pixel and Galaxy S24 Ultra, not everyone can benefit from this quick eSIM transfer process. So, keep an eye and if you get the feature, use it as shown above.
