TikTok Notes app launched to rival Instagram, but you can't access it yet

TikTok Notes app launch: TikTok has officially launched its new TikTok Notes app in some countries across the globe. This new app rivals Instagram and unlike its parent app, that gained popularity for its short-video format posts, it will let users share content in text and photos format. To put it simply, TikTok Notes is TikTok’s Instagram. Or in other words, while TikTok is for videos, TikTok Notes is for photos.

TikTok made the announcement regarding the availability of its new TikTok Notes app in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “We’re in the early stages of experimenting with a dedicated space for photo and text content with TikTok Notes,” the company wrote in its post.

“Whether documenting adventures, expressing creativity, or simply sharing snapshots of one’s day, the TikTok Notes experience is designed for those who would like to share and engage through photo content,” TikTok added in the post.

In addition to making the announcement regarding the availability of the TikTok Notes app, the company also shared a glimpse of what the app looks like for the people in the rest of the world to see.

What’s new in TikTok Notes and how’s it different from Instagram?

The image of the TikTok Notes shared by company on X shows that the app has a Pinterest-like format with users getting easy access to the buttons to switch between the accounts that they follow (For You feed) and the algorithmic feed (Following feed) — a feature Instagram rolled out not-so-long ago.

Tapping any of the posts in the Feed opens an Instagram-like interface with the image caption below the image or image gallery. How the interface differs from that of Instagram is that in the Meta’s photos and videos sharing app, users can add images and the caption. However, in case of the TikTok Notes app, users can also add a separate title that appears in bold and is displayed in both the feeds.

Besides this, users can easily comment using text and emojis when they open a post — something Instagram can learn from TikTok.

As far as availability is concerned, the TikTok Notes app is available for download on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store for users in Australia and Canada. TikTok plans to make the app available in more countries soon. It’s worth remembering that TikTok remains banned in India, which is why the TikTok Notes app is likely to remain unavailable in the country.
