Instagram vs TikTok fight has taken a new turn. TikTok has confirmed that it is working on a new app called the TikTok Notes app. This new app will have a photo stream much like Instagram wherein users will be able to watch photo posts shared by other users and also share their own posts. The ByteDance-owned platform has also started populating its new app among TikTok users.
“TikTok Notes, a new app for photo posts, is coming soon! Your existing and future public TikTok photo posts will be shown on TikTok Notes,” the notification that TikTok has started showing to its users according to the posts shared by TikTok users on X (formerly Twitter). Here’s what the notification says:

To begin with, the TikTok to TikTok Notes app migration app for photo posts will take place in a way that is quite similar to how migration from Instagram to Thread happened. This means, TikTok will show a user’s photo posts in the TikTok Notes app. This includes private and public photo posts. Users can then chose not to share their photo posts in the new app simply by toggling off a button.
TikTok has also confirmed this development.
In a statement to TechCrunch, the company confirmed that it is always looking for new ways to enhance user experience and get creative in photo and text format.
What’s more?
A separate URL owned by TikTok — photo.tiktok.com — also shows a marketing image showing photo posts ‘Opening in TikTok Notes’. However, the URL has been deleted by TikTok since then.
While there aren’t many details available regarding the TikTok Notes app, but the leaked marketing image shows that posts in the app will look a lot like Instagram and that users will be able to comment on these posts using a combination of text and emojis.
TikTok has just started testing this app among a small group of users. The company is expected to roll it out to more users in the countries where the app is available in the coming months. The app is expected to remain unavailable in India owing to the TikTok ban.
